BIRN has a vacancy for a Business Development Manager. He/She will be responsible for development and other activities of the BIRN’s needs, in the area of responsibility.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Identifying potential business partners and developing new ideas
  • Evaluating customer research and market conditions
  • Planning, developing and coordinating the implementation of business plans
  • Monitoring the program budget and keeping financial records
  • Producing and filing proper paperwork with all project contractors
  • Prospect for potential new clients and turn this into increased business
  • Plan approaches and pitches
  • Develop business and marketing plan and implement it
  • Build relationships with new clients
  • Initiate new ideas for the development of new products and businesses in line with the vision of BIRN
  • Initiate new products and services for the short term and long term sustainability of the company
  • Accounting and financial analysis


Person specification:


  • fluent written and spoken English, Serbian (other European and Balkan language is a plus)
  • IT literate
  • hard-working
  • good communication and presentation skills
  • sensitive to political/ethnic issues in the Balkans
  • understanding of the Balkan media scene
  • Finance
  • Experienced in working with senior management to align sales strategies and solutions
  • Must have experience of working in a corporate/business environment
  • Excellent negotiation skills, proven track record of increasing revenue
  • Proven business development manager who is used working to targets
  • Show an understanding of the challenges facing the media industry
  • Educational and Work Requirements
  • A post graduate degree (preferably a MBA) in Finance/Management or an associated area 
  • At least 3 years of professional work experience, preferably in media and digital sector
  • Past experience in business development and deal structuring would be an advantage
  • Strong analytical skills and a proven track record of leadership and coordinating teams
  • Knowledge in finance and project management

Look at business opportunities, incubation of new ideas and business, initiating pilot projects, long term strategic plans for the company. Develop business model for BIRN projects and the investments. He/she shall work closely with the financial, sales and marketing team.
