BIRN has a vacancy for a project coordinator to assist in the implementation of regional journalistic programmes. The programmes will be managed from Belgrade by the BIRN network’s regional hub.

Job specification:

  • to coordinate project implementation, including event organisation, activity planning and implementation, promotion and activity reporting;
  • to monitor the financial aspects of regional programme implementation;
  • to deal with administration, maintaining good filing systems and contacts databases;
  • to ensure all activities are recorded according to BIRN’s monitoring and evaluation system, and publicised on the BIRN website;
  • donor reporting

Person specification:

  • fluent written and spoken English
  • IT literate
  • numerate
  • hard-working
  • good communication and presentation skills
  • team worker sensitive to political/ethnic issues in the Balkans
  • understanding of the Balkan media scene

Desirable experience (more than one field of expertise is an asset):

Balkan Fellowship for Journalistic Excellence, Project Coordinator – Terms of Reference:

  • Position –Full-Time
  • Location – BIRN Belgrade Office
  • Monthly fee –Subject to agreement
  • Job title – Project Coordinator
  • Duration – October 2014 - September 2015, with the possibility of extension

Responsibilities:

Programme administration & development: filing progress reports and related documentation assisting with the production of all other necessary grant reporting monitoring the programme budget and keeping financial records producing and filing proper paperwork with all project contractors.


Programme operations & promotion: monitoring implementation of the programme according to project plan and timeline assisting with the organisation of events, including programme design, travel and materials coordinating the work of journalists and the editorial staff coordinating publicity and the promotion of the project monitoring the maintenance of the project webpage.

BIRN is a nongovernmental organisation based in Bosnia-Herzegovina, working on development of investigative journalism on the Balkans from the Balkans. It emerged from the Balkan programme implemented by the International War and Peace Reporting – IWPR, from the UK.
